Mr. Black Vintage Chorus or TC Electronic Corona Mini?

A reader’s question to the Dude:

I use a Mr. Black Vintage Chorus Mini and it sounds superb.
I just notice a little latency, which might be just in my mind. But I asked Mr.
Black himself and he said it’s ‘fully 24-bit DSP’. So, it has no analog dry through.
Now I wonder if for example the TC Electronic Corona Mini, which has analog dry through, would be even better.
But on the other hand, the TC Electronic Corona Mini is unable to reach the sonic quality of the Vintage Chorus.
I’m just curious about what you think about this issue. Continue reading “Mr. Black Vintage Chorus or TC Electronic Corona Mini?”

AnalogMan ARDX20 vs. Maxon AD-900 – Analog delay comparison

This is a comparison of the AnalogMan ARDX20 with the Maxon AD-900.
These both analog delays create a rather dark sound. They are about the same size, but for the AnalogMan ARDX20 comes along with the Amazeo, it will need a bit more space on the pedalboard. Therefore, you will additionally get tap tempo and modulation.
Sonically both delay pedals are based on the Ibanez AD-9.
For the Maxon AD-9 does not provide modulation, I forego showing this feature of the AnalogMan ARDX20. Find out more about the sound of different delay times and how both pedals may sound in the mix.

0:07 about 600ms delay time (max. delay time of the AD-900)
1:02 shorter delay time Continue reading “AnalogMan ARDX20 vs. Maxon AD-900 – Analog delay comparison”

YouTube recommendation: “fuzz the sound that revolutionized the world”

NewsBecause of Corona we all spend much time at home. Time, that can be used quite profitably by learning something new. For all those, who would like to learn everything about the history of fuzz effects, I would like to recommend the documentary „fuzz the sound that revolutionized the world“. AnalogMan ARDX20 vs. DOD Rubberneck – Analog delay comparison

This is a comparison of the AnalogMan ARDX20 with the DOD Rubberneck.
These both analog delays create a rather dark sound. Each of them provides modulation and – if you also use the Amazeo for the ARDX20- also tap tempo.
Find out more about the sound of different delay times and how both pedals may sound in the mix.

MXR Carbon Copy Deluxe vs. AnalogMan ARDX20 – Analog delay comparison

This is a comparison of the MXR Carbon Copy Deluxe with the AnalogMan ARDX20.
These both analog delays create a rather dark sound. By using the Amazeo, the ARDX20 provides tap tempo like the MXR Carbon Copy Deluxe. Find out more about the sound of different delay times, the modulation sound and how both pedals may sound in the mix.

0:07 medium delay time Continue reading “MXR Carbon Copy Deluxe vs. AnalogMan ARDX20 – Analog delay comparison”

Analog, digital and tape delay – how do they sound with an overdrive pedal (AnalogMan King of Tone)?

This is a comparison of three different types of delays all accompanied by the AnalogMan King of Tone.
For this demo I used a dark analog delay (DOD Rubberneck), a digital delay (Strymon DIG) and a tape delay(Fulltone Tube Tape Echo).
The first 25 seconds you can hear a sneak peak of each type of delay accompanied by the King of Tone.
Learn more about the how the King of Tone affects every single type of delay depending on the respective kind of playing (palm mutes, modulation, in the mix).

0:07 AnalogMan King of Tone solo
0:10 sneak peak DOD Rubberneck + King of Tone Continue reading “Analog, digital and tape delay – how do they sound with an overdrive pedal (AnalogMan King of Tone)?”

AnalogMan ARDX20 Dual Analog Delay

ARDX20The AnalogMan ARDX20 is a delay pedal with a completely analog circuit.
Because of its size it is rather less pedalboard-friendly, but especially accompanied by the AMAZEo it becomes an excellent delay pedal. Continue reading “AnalogMan ARDX20 Dual Analog Delay”

Effect history (Part 5): Retro boom of the 90s

Effect Pedal In the 90s there was a recollection. Grunge killed the dreams of the hairspray-metal bands and thus, also of the effect-industry. For cost reasons and also as a commercially statement many guitarists bought second hand pedals and were satisfied with two or three of them. The previous polished sound became rougher.
