By reconnecting the delay to the power supply, the expression pedal will be activated. The first pot, you move after reconnecting the delay can be controlled by using the expression pedal.
For “dubbing” I makes sense to control the mix via the expression pedal (0% in the toe position of the expression pedal and 50% in the tip position).

And there are also other delays that provide the so-called momentary function.

The bypass switch of the Chase Bliss Audio Tonal Recall, for example can be used as a momentary button.
In this case, the whole delay pedal is only activated, as long as you keep the button pressed.
This would be ideal for “dubbing”.
And it also offers the “trails mode”, that I already mentioned above.

Maybe this pedal is also suitable for your needs.
But because of the fact, that the Tonal Recall is an analog delay, its sound varies from the sound of the El Capistan.
The repeats of the Tonal Recall are darker and somehow more blurred than those of the El Capistan which is emulating a Tape Echo.

The TC Electronic Flashback 2 might also be interesting for you.
Its footswitch offers an internal expression pedal that can be freely configured.
You might adjust this switch in a way that there is no delay sound while the button remains unpressed.
The delay sound will appear as soon as you press the button and the repeats will fade away after you have released the button again.

{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false

256,269,677,263,268,675,683,88
1312,1318,336,1311,1314,1315,123,1317,493,957,1316,1313
post-2687","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-7000-questions-to-the-dude","category-analog-delays","category-chase-bliss-audio","category-pedalboard","category-pedals","category-strymon","category-tc-electronic","category-tonal-recall-rkm","tag-ausklingen-lassen","tag-chase-bliss-audio-tonal-recall","tag-chase-bliss-audio-tonal-recall-rkm","tag-delay-fading","tag-dub","tag-dubbing","tag-expression-pedal","tag-momentary-function","tag-strymon-el-capistan","tag-tape-echo-emulation","tag-tc-electronic-flashback-2","tag-trails-mode
This is a comparison of the Source Audio Nemesis with the Chase Bliss Audio Tonal Recall RKM. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsWmNqiYo8g
The Chase Bliss Audio Tonal Recall RKM is – as the name already suggests – quite similar to the Chase Bliss Audio Tonal Recall.
