I love Strymon effects and the Strymon Volante is one of my favorite delay pedals.
Therefore, I am proud to present this interview with Dave Fruehling, Co-Founder of Strymon.
1. So many famous musicians are using your devices – is there someone whom you wish he/she would play one of your pedals?
Dave Fruehling: It is exciting when one of your Idols use your creation. There have been several but I always hoped that Alex Lifeson of Rush (my guitar hero) would use something I made.
2. If you would have to choose one single pedal or device, you will have to use for the rest of your life, which one would you choose?
Dave Fruehling: I would have to go with the Timeline. I’m a bit biased but I think that Timeline has an infinite world of the best sounds. A lifetime of exploration.
3. Is there a pedal of another manufacturer of which you wish, you would have invented it?
Dave Fruehling: I think that envelope wah is amazing. The MuTron III is genius!
4. What does your recent rig look like?
Dave Fruehling: I’m currently playing my Tom Anderson or a LesPaul Goldtop RI. My pedal board has a Timeline, Big Sky, and Mobius, Sunset Drive, Earth Drive (made by Sarno Music Solutions), and Iridium. Then into a PA thru iridium or into my favorite amp, a Lerxt combo(made by MojoTone for Alex Lifeson).
5. Is there a question regarding your work, you would really love to answer to but that nobody asks?
Dave Fruehling: I got nothin’.
6. Looking back, is there anything you would have done differently?
Dave Fruehling: There are a thousand little things that I could have done diffently. I’ve made mistakes and poor choices along the way. But it’s the total sum of all those little things that leads you to where you are. And so for that reason I wouldn’t change a thing; As they say on so many bad neck tatoos, “No Regerts!”
7. If you should have to choose a real job far away from what you are doing now, what would that be?
Dave Fruehling: I’m really intrigued by some of these reality shows with Game Wardens. They are law enforcement with a leaning toward protecting nature. I think I could do that!
Many thanks at this point again to Dave Fruehling who was so kind to answer 7 questions of the DelayDude.
