“I decided to spend a bit more money for a pedalboard and to buy a Gigrig G2 and, beside others, a Strymon Timeline. I am almost sure, that the analog dry through function makes a decisive difference regarding the dry signal. Here is my question: Is it true, that modulation effects can not really deal with analog dry through and phasing problems may occur? The Italian as well as the Spanish word “Volante“ means wheel or travelling/flying. I think, it refers to the magnetic disc of a Binson Echorec, for the Strymon Volante emulates its sounds (as well as further tape echo sounds) in a very special way. Continue reading “Review: Strymon Volante part 1”
A pedalboard with many pedals on it offers various possibilities but at the same time, it is pressty complicated to switch between different pedals. After adding tremolo and reverb to the clean sound of the verse, for the refrain you may want to switch abruptly to an overdriven sound. This is a comparison of the DOD Rubberneck with the Ibanez DE-7.
The DOD Rubberneck has got much midrange and provides the rough sound of a marvelous vintage delay. By using the tone pot you can set beautiful dark delays. The Rubberneck is perfect to create ambient sound and soundscapes. The gain pot enables you to produce grittier delays. All pots are quite interactive and offer numerous setting options.
The special thing about the echo mode of the DE-7 is, that the digital created signal must pass an analog circuit with a JRC 4580, clipping diodes and analog filters. You can easily produce beautiful rhythmical delays. A switch allows to chose between three different delay “ranges” which can be fine-tuned by the delay time pot. Echo and delay can be selected by the mode switch.
