The Hughes & Kettner Replex a not even pedalboard-friendly digital delay which is specialized on a marvelous tube sound. But the outstanding design, as well as its sound are justifying the size of this true bypass pedal absolutely. Continue reading “Hughes & Kettner Replex”
If you are looking for the perfect headphones on the internet, you will frequently find recommendations like: more is always better. But this does definitively not work for every kind of use. Continue reading “The impedance of headphones”
The Yamaha NS-10 Studio Monitor is still the most famous speaker in record studios all over the world. Although many, while using the NS-10 for the first time, are pretty disappointed. It does not provide the perfect sound that makes every mix sound brilliant. Quite the contrary: the first hearing impression mostly reveals a thin sound with less bass and too many mids. But it also offers some advantages. Continue reading “Yamaha NS-10 Studio Monitor”
This is a comparison of the Eventide ROSE with the Ibanez DE7. Both of these digital delays are using an analog filter. Check out some of their sonic possibilities at different setting, for slapback delays and in the mix.
This is a stereo comparison of the brilliant Crazy Tube Circuits Echotopia with the amazing Empress Echosystem.Find out more about different settings and how both of them may sound in the mix. Please, use your headphones!
Almost surprisingly, Strymon put the Iridium – an amp and IR cab simulator – on the market. The Iridium emulates three classical amplifiers: The options called round, chime and punch are no less than the sounds of the Fender Deluxe Reverb, the Vox AC30 and a Marshall Plexi. This is a comparison of the Moog Moogerfooger MF-104 with Eventide ROSE. To get close to the brightest setting of the Moogerfooger MF-104 I reduced the filter of the ROSE. You will also get a demo of a darker setting, slow and faster modulation and how both delay pedals may sound in the mix. For pitch shifting effects, I added an expression pedal to the ROSE delay. Regarding the Moogerfooger, I used a square waveform modulation to create the pitch shifting effects.
This is a comparison of the Empress Echosystem with the Electro Harmonix Deluxe Memory Boy. The Echosystem provides a Deluxe Memory Boy algorithm, which I chose for the first three soundfiles in this video. Find out if the analog bucket brigade device algorithm with slightly increased saturation gets also close to the sound of the Deluxe Memory Boy. For the Electro Harmonix Deluxe Memory Boy is a mono pedal, I chose the single mode for the Echosystem.
This is a comparison of the Chase Bliss Audio THERMAE with Eventide ROSE. To get close to the brightest setting of the THERMAE, I reduced the filter of the ROSE. You will also get a demo of a darker setting, slow modulation and how both of delay pedals may sound in the mix. For pitch shifting effects, I added an expression pedal to the ROSE delay.
These are my favorite 7 settings of the Eventide ROSE delay. Find out how a maxed filter pot will create bright repeats (0:08) while a reduced filter will bring out almost analog-like sounds (0:43). An envelope controlled modulation will produce a tape-like feeling (1:27). And of course, I also used an expression pedal (3:00) for reverse delays with pitch shifting.
